Description:
We will discuss how Noah walked with God and how we can, too.
Message from Marsh: “It took Noah a long time to perfect his walk with God. Let this encourage you, as you make your walk with God more understandable and complete.”

Lesson 2 - Noah Walked with God
STARTING PRAYER: A suggested opening prayer for small group members or individuals to invite God to connect as we seek Him in His Word. Feel free to add your own words, “in prayer.”
Father, we thank You that You have never abandoned us and are ready to walk with us each day. Guide us in more understanding of what it means to walk with God.
OPENING QUESTIONS:
1. What is it like to walk alongside someone in life?
2. How is walking healthy for you?
SCRIPTURE PASSAGE:
Noah found favor with the Lord. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God (Genesis 6:8-9).
LESSON:
It takes 750-1,000 wobbly steps and falls for an infant’s brain to get the right balance to walk. It comes naturally after many months to take it for granted. You worked harder at the beginning and now it paid off. You can now run, jump, and even do flips.
The physical life reflects our spiritual life. Learning to walk with God takes time to master. There are always moments you will falter. But overall, you can grow where it is natural to walk and talk with God.
There are several examples in the Bible where it says someone walked with God. Here are some: Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, David, Solomon, Hezekiah, Levi, the 11 disciples, and Paul.
What does it mean to walk with God? For Noah, it involved discussions with God about plans for the ark, but it also was a regular occurrence for him spiritually. It is difficult to get a handle on this unless you consider sincerely what it means to walk with someone.
To walk with God means action:
Reverence for God. Respect for Who He is and what He can do. Respect grows through time and events, cannot be rushed or purchased. He loves and has paid the price for you through Jesus. So, how can you grow in your respect for Him? You must understand He is always operating for your good; that He is never surprised; and that He is a compassionate Father who will discipline you when you do wrong but keeps on loving you despite it
Going in the same direction as God. There’s not much discussion when you are walking in different directions, therefore, the purposes of God must be your purpose. Searching the Scripture for His purposes should be a part of your walk.
Agreement with God’s standards. You must identify the standards of His holiness and the requirements He has given for your life in His Word. Strive to meet them wholeheartedly. This is not adjusting to God’s standards to your standards.
Trust God in your life. Faithfulness when it is dark, rugged, cold. And faithfulness when sadness, fear, and other emotions threaten to overwhelm you.
Maintaining an attitude of gratefulness. You must have a thankful heart for all things. You must allow this thankfulness to raise your vision of what God is doing in and through you.
To walk with God means He will speak to you in different ways. About what? You say:
He will give you something special. Jesus offered the Samaritan woman a promise: “whosoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst” (John 6:13-15).
He will help you be aware of your sins or disobediences. Notice His discussions with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:9, 11, 13).
He will reveal Himself to you. On the way to Emmaus, the disciples were downhearted and blinded to who they were talking with, Jesus (Luke 24:14-34). Sometimes when you are walking with God, your heart is not clear about what He is saying. You must wait for Him to reveal Himself clearly.
He will bolster your self-image because of the way He sees you. God saw Moses as the deliverer (Exodus 3:9-10). God saw Gideon as a mighty warrior (Judges 6:12). Every person God has used felt inadequate, but God saw something special in all of them.
God will challenge you with powerful questions. For a crippled man at the pool of Bethesda He said, “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6).
He will be with you, clearly stated in his challenge to the disciples (Matthew 28:20).
To walk with God means integrating Him into all parts of your life:
Walk reverencing God, Deuteronomy 8:6; Nehemiah 5:9.
Walk faithfully, 1 Kings 2:4
Walk with wholehearted devotion, 2 Kings 20:3
Walk according to God’s statues, 1 Kings 3:3
Walk in uprightness, 1 Kings 9:4
Walk blamelessly, Psalm 15:2
Walk in truth, Psalm 26:3
Walk in the light, 1 John 1:7
Walk about in freedom, Psalm 119:45
Walk in understanding, Proverbs 9:6
Walk humbly, Micah 6:8
Walk in obedience, 2 John 6
Walk in love, 2 John 6
This is the first powerful action Noah did in the WOW factor. He walked with God. He found how to focus his life with God at the center. He communicated with Him when there was no Bible. You are so blessed to have many more resources than Noah in your spiritual walk with God. However, never think you have it all together or you will not mess up.
