WOW Factor for Men
(www.mensgroup.org – “Original Study”)
Description:
We bring together the previous four lessons and encourage you to not merely understand the WOW factor, but act upon it each day of your life.
Message from Marsh: “It’s easy to miss the importance of these three actions in your life. You are a busy man with multiple responsibilities and the weight of family success on you. To shoulder the load, we need to incorporate daily the WOW factors. Only you can do that.”

Lesson 5 - The Three Roots of Walk, Obey, and Worship in You
STARTING PRAYER: A suggested opening prayer for small group members or individuals to invite God to connect as we seek Him in His Word. Feel free to add your own words, “in prayer.”
Lord, help us live like Jesus. Incorporate the three WOW factor actions into our daily lives through your Holy Spirit.
OPENING QUESTIONS:
1. How busy are you?
2. What has helped you in the past to live a holy/righteous life?
SCRIPTURE PASSAGE:
When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After becoming the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God for 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. He walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
Methuselah lived 187 years before becoming the father of Lamech. After Lamech was born, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. In total, Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.
Lamech lived 182 years before having a son, whom he named Noah. He said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.
After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth (Genesis 5:21-32).
Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood (Genesis 7:6-7).
LESSON:
In Noah’s life, he had less information about God than we do. In that culture, speaking about God and experiences with Him were never written. Their culture was one of verbal transference, so Noah could have known more than we think. The few chapters in Genesis captures Noah as a person who went against our natural inclinations. He exemplified the WOW factor for us as a believer.
We could ask, how did Noah know how to walk with God, obey God, and worship God? The answer might be found in his family line. Nothing is written in Scripture about his father’s and grandfather’s closeness to God, but the way Noah related to God was very similar to his great grandfather Enoch, who walked with God his whole life. In those times, oral tradition was shared with the next generation. This could be a reason for Noah’s righteousness.
The WOW factor joins three aspects of being wholehearted, a term used in Scripture about Caleb and other Old Testament men. The mind relates to walking with God through knowledge; the will to obedience to obey God in actions; and the emotions of worshipping God with a happy heart.
It is important, even necessary, to understand that the WOW Factor is linear in order. You must walk with God before you know what He wants you to do. Obedience is doing what is right, just, and fair. You learn this through walking with God. Worship follows obedience. To worship God while living in sin is living a lie in front of God, who sees it. At that moment, it is not worship but self-deceiving waywardness.
To walk, obey, and worship is the heart of life with God. This is neither an easy road nor one well-traveled, but it is one that will bring genuine success to a life. Your impact on the lives of those around us depends on your acceptance of these impactful actions.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. Is your time on earth like Noah’s?
2. How much do you know about your family’s relationship with Christ?
APPLICATION:
1. How do these actions impact your life today?
2. What guidelines could you impose on yourself now to help you deepen your walk, obedience, and worship of God?
CLOSING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, our understanding of righteousness has grown as we have reviewed the WOW factor that was a part of Noah’s life. It is up to us to make the WOW factor a part of our daily lives. Help us create a path forward that will enhance these in us.
