Part XIII: Being a Legacy Maker

Description

This Bible study focuses on the concept of being a “Legacy Maker” - someone who lives their life in such a way that they make a lasting positive impact on others and honor God through their actions. We’ll explore what it means to be a legacy maker, using examples from Scripture and practical applications for our daily lives

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we gather to study Your Word and reflect on what it means to leave a godly legacy, we ask for Your guidance and wisdom. Open our hearts and minds to understand how we can live lives that honor You and positively impact those around us. Help us to see the opportunities You’ve given us to make a difference. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Introduction

Throughout the Bible, we see examples of men and women who left lasting legacies through their faith, obedience, and service to God and others. As believers, we are called to live intentionally, making the most of our time on earth to glorify God and bless others. This study will explore what it means to be a “Legacy Maker” and how we can apply these principles in our own lives.

Key Lesson: Becoming a Legacy Maker

Understanding Legacy

A legacy is what we leave behind - the impact of our lives that continues after we’re gone. As Christians, our goal should be to leave a godly legacy that points others to Christ. James 1:22 (NIV) reminds us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Our legacy is built not just on what we know, but on what we do with that knowledge. It’s about living out our faith in tangible ways that impact others and glorify God.

Living Intentionally

To be a legacy maker, we must live with purpose and intention. This means being aware of the needs around us, investing in relationships, using our time and resources wisely, and consistently reflecting Christ in our actions. Ephesians 5:15-17 (NIV) advises, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Living intentionally requires us to be mindful of our choices and actions, always seeking to align them with God’s will and purpose for our lives.

Serving Others

A key aspect of leaving a godly legacy is serving others. Romans 12:9-18 (NIV) provides practical guidance on how to live a life of service:

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

These verses outline practical ways we can serve others and build a legacy of love and compassion.

Persevering in Faith

Legacy makers are those who remain faithful to God even in difficult circumstances. They trust in God’s providence and continue to serve Him regardless of the challenges they face. 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV) exemplifies this attitude: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Perseverance in faith is crucial for leaving a legacy that inspires others to trust God in all circumstances.

Influencing Future Generations

A true legacy extends beyond our immediate impact to influence future generations. This is done through mentoring, teaching, and living an example worth following. 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV) illustrates this principle: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” By investing in others and passing on our faith and wisdom, we can create a ripple effect that impacts generations to come.

Discussion Questions

1. What does leaving a godly legacy mean to you personally?

2. Can you think of someone who has left a positive legacy in your life? What made their impact so significant?

3. What are some practical ways we can be more intentional about serving others in our daily lives?

4. How can we maintain our faith and continue to make a positive impact, even during challenging times?

5. In what areas of your life do you feel God calling you to make a greater impact?

Application

1. Reflect on your current priorities. Are there any adjustments you need to make to align more closely with leaving a godly legacy?

2. Identify one person in your life whom you can intentionally invest in this week. What specific action will you take?

3. Consider an area where you’ve been hesitant to serve or take action. What step can you take this week to move forward in obedience?

4. Start a “legacy journal” to document ways you’re trying to make a positive impact and lessons you’re learning along the way.

5. Pray about how God might want to use you to influence the next generation. What gifts or experiences do you have that you could share?

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for the example of legacy makers in Scripture and in our own lives. Help us live intentionally, always seeking to honor you and serve others. Give us the courage to step out in faith, the wisdom to use our time and resources wisely, and the perseverance to keep running the race you’ve set before us. May our lives leave a lasting impact that points others to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
