Part XV: Making Your Life Count - Leaving a Lasting Legacy

Description

This Bible study explores the concept of making your life count and leaving a lasting legacy. We’ll examine how to expand our thinking, ask boldly of God, and live purposefully to fulfill our divine calling and bless others.

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we gather to study Your Word and reflect on making our lives count, we ask for Your wisdom and guidance. Open our hearts to understand the greatness of Your calling on our lives. Help us to think bigger, ask boldly, and live purposefully to fulfill our destiny and bless others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Introduction

God has placed a unique destiny within each of us, calling us to make a significant impact in this world. This study will explore how we can expand our thinking, align our lives with God’s purposes, and live in such a way that we leave a legacy of faith and service.

Key Lesson: Making Your Life Count

Embracing Your Divine Calling

2 Timothy 1:9 (NIV) reminds us that God “has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.” This calling is divine and for our purpose. We don’t decide our calling; we discover it. God sees our potential and what we can become, even when we can’t see it ourselves. Recognizing and embracing this divine calling is the first step in making our lives count.

Expanding Your Thinking

To leave a legacy, we must expand our thinking about what God wants to do in and through our lives. Proverbs 23:7 (NIV) says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” By enlarging our capacity to receive from God, we remove limits on what He can do for us and through us. This involves challenging our preconceptions, being open to God’s leading, and believing in the potential He sees in us.

Asking Boldly

Jesus encourages us to ask and receive. Matthew 7:7 (NIV) states, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” We serve a big God, so we should ask for big things. Like Jabez, we can pray boldly. 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV) records his prayer: “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.” Don’t settle for just getting by; ask for abundance so you can be a blessing to others.

Living as a Blessing

God wants to use us as channels through which His blessings flow to others. Proverbs 3:27 (NIV) instructs, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” Seek opportunities daily to be a blessing to someone. This could involve acts of kindness, sharing resources, or using your talents to help others. By living as a blessing, we extend our impact and create a legacy of generosity and love.

Pursuing Your Vision with Fervor

Romans 12:11 (NIV) encourages us to “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” This means maintaining a spiritual glow in our work for God. Pursue your God-given vision with passion and determination, like David running toward Goliath. Enthusiasm and dedication in pursuing our calling not only honors God but also inspires others and contributes to a lasting legacy.

Discussion Questions

1. What does it mean to you personally to “make your life count”?

2. How has you’re thinking about God’s plan for your life expanded or changed over time?

3. Can you share an experience where asking boldly of God resulted in a blessing for you or others?

4. What are some practical ways we can be a blessing to others in our daily lives?

5. How can we maintain a “fervent spirit” in pursuing our calling, especially when facing challenges?

Application

1. Reflect on your current goals. Are they big enough to require God’s help? If not, how can you expand your vision?

2. Identify one area where you’ve been hesitant to ask God for more. Write a bold prayer request and commit to praying it daily this week.

3. Look for an opportunity each day this week to be a blessing to someone. Keep a journal of these experiences and how they impact you.

4. Consider your unique gifts and passions. How might God be calling you to use these to make a difference in the world?

5. Create a personal mission statement that reflects your desire to leave a lasting legacy. Share it with a trusted friend for accountability.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for the holy calling You’ve placed on our lives. Help us to think bigger, ask boldly, and live purposefully to fulfill the destiny You’ve prepared for us. Give us the courage to step out in faith and be a blessing to others. May our lives shine brightly for You, leaving a legacy that points others to Christ and expands Your kingdom. Use us as Your instruments to make a lasting impact in this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
